Wow, I should have had some money down on this.  In the Meat Madness contest I wrote about a few weeks ago, Bacon won the tournament just as I predicted, defeating Steak in the finals 465-351.  I crumbled some bacon up in my egg salad a couple nights ago; it really does make everything better.

Here’s one for the Why Didn’t I Think of That? file: Meat Madness.  In the spirit of the NCAA basketball tournament, someone made up a 32-meat bracket, to determine the champion of all meats by letting people vote on the matchups over the next couple weeks.  The regions are Seafood, Pork, Poultry, and “Red” Meat.  The Pork Region looks like the power division, and I’d put my money on bacon to take the whole thing.  Bacon isn’t just great by itself: it makes everything else better too!

We just brought home a half of a hog a couple weeks ago, so we’re feasting happily on family-raised bacon, sausage, ham, and pork chops again.  My dad told me this weekend that he’ll have a few extra hogs ready to go by the first week of March, if I knew anyone who wanted some.  I thought I’d write up some information about it for people who might be interested but don’t know what’s involved.
